SCCM Right Click Tools

This is version 1.1 of the SCCM Right Click Tools.  It will check for the installation of the SCCM admin console and if it does not find it the installation will exit.

Special thanks Ken Delikta he is the man behind the curtain, and also thanks to John Marcum for the changes he made to my original tool.

Version 1 includes: (This tool will not work with SMS 2003)
1.       Most of the tools that were included in the original SMS Console Additions V1.4  (thanks to those guys)
2.
The ability to see the computer details and security compliance web reports for a single client inside collections
3.
A separate drill down for client logs as well as security update client logs.
4.
The ability to check the status of an advertisement with a right click from that advertisementIn order to get the client and the advertisement web reports to work you must perform the following. Version 1.2 adds

 1.       Fixed the right click tools on the “collections” that didn’t open a CMD window when running. Also fixed the echo so the results now show up in a command window

Version 1.3 adds

1.       Will detect the version of the tool installed so re-installation of unnecessary files does not occur when new versions are released
2
.       Now has an entry in Add Remove Programs which enables un-installation of the program

 Version 1.4 (4/9/2008)
  1. No more hard coding of your site code to get scripts and reports to run correctly
  2. Detects and uninstalls any previous versions of the tool.
  3. Right click tool added to the software updates node, but it only works if there is a update list with patches deployed.
  4. Prefixed each tool with your SCCM site code for easier recognition
  5. Right click ability on each advertisement that will display three web reports
  6. Added a prompt to see the CCMsetup.log on the SCCM Client install
  7. Fixed the Client Action for User Policy Evaluation and Update
  8. Added all the client actions from the control panel including the Security Updates Scan and Security Updates Deployment Evaluation
 Version 1.5 (5/21/2008)
  1. Added an extension to the client tools that will tell you what collection a user or system belongs to. Thanks to Matthew Hudson
  2. Added a web report to show all the advertisements for a certain system.
Version 1.6 (5/30/2008)
  1. CCM and CCMSetup directories now work properly.
Version 1.7 (6/17/2008)
  1. Added the Software Updates Scan Cycle to the Collection root so it runs not just on one client but a whole collection.  Requested by a member from the forum community.
Version 1.8 (2/13/2009)
  1. Added Support for Windows 2008 64bit.
  2. New Tool to Re-run advertisements from a drop down list.

Is anyone working on a Wake-On-LAN Right Click Tool for SCCM? The WOL product from IE had Tools for the SMS 2003 Console to manually wake up individual computers and/or Collections but now that SCCM has WOL features built-in, I would have thought Microsoft would have included a similar Console Tool to manually wake up a Computer or Collection of computers.

Hi Rick,

 nice tool.

couple of questions though.

1. When you right click a machine (SITE) Client Tools/Computer managment. Should it not connect to that machine..? Only seems to launch Computer managment but dosent connect to the computer managment of the remote PC.

Is there an easy way of removing some of the tools/logs/Actions listed on the right click for my admins who i wouldnt want to see all the options..?

Link to download pack latest pack is to myitforum.com/.../0521ConfigMgrTools.zip which was previous version & does no longer work.

If you copy the url instead of clicking on it it works as its to myitforum.com/.../0527ConfigMgrTools.zip

clickable link needs pointing to 0527 not 0521

regards

Mark.

The function of bringing up the web reports for a client appears to assume the reporting point site system in on the primary site server itself.  If this is indeed the case, any chance of a quick fix I can make on this end to have the links point to the actual reporting server?

Regards,

Vance

Hi Rick,

Do you have an estimated date for your next update?

Can you also verify exactly what the options are for installation?  Our management points are used by many support staff connecting to many different site databases.  If they select a particular site code and server name during install, will this affect the other users of the management point?  Or will they be able to set their own site codes and server names?

Thanks,

Kezza

In  the client actions right click tools you have "Security Updates Scan Cycle" and "Security Updates Deployment Evaluation Cycle" are these the same as "Software Update Scan Cycle" and "Software Updates Deployment Evaluations Cycle".

If they are why the name change to security?

By the way.

Thanks for the great tool, it has saved me a bunch of time. Excellent Job!

Is there anyway of incorperating the WMI fix into a right clock.

i.e. using psexec to stop the WMI service delete the wmi repositry & restart the service.

Also what about a shutdown & restart right clock option?

keep up the good work.

Is there any documentation on an easy way to convert any scripts/addon tools I created with the SMS right click tools so they get added on to the new SCCM Right Click Tools?

I wrote a tool for my Helpdesk to be able to remote control machines by IP address (because our laptops roam and our the associated DNS and WINS records don't always update in a timely manner). We still need this tool in SCCM.

I have other tools, but right now this is the one preventing me from upgrading our Primary site to SCCM 2007.

The one thing that is missing in all this is the ability to add computers to multiple collections in one move (perhaps a browse?)

Other than this "wish" and my little issue above, I'm finding the tools of great benefit.

Thanks to all who contribute

Const HKLM = &H80000002

sScheduleID = WScript.Arguments(0)

sType = WScript.Arguments(2)

ChangeAssign = False

ReRunAdvert=False

Any customizations I'm supposed to make after installing this?

If you change Webreports.xml to use report ID 111 instead of 107, it will be a much more useful function when you right click on an advertisement and want to see the advertisement status.

Hello

I have installed this tool and it looks like it overwrites the security permission that are currently set. I have restricted collection that come down from the central site and this tools allows you to add computers to these collection. Is there a way I can restrict this tool from allowing computers to be added to certain collections.

Thx

chiners_68, replace the cmd.exe in the sccmtools folder with your existing working one.. and that will fix it. The supplied cmd.exe registers as a non win32 application.

In version 1.0, you state that there is a process that needs to be done for the right click for Advertisement status to work.

"4.       The ability to check the status of an advertisement with a right click from that advertisementIn order to get the client and the advertisement web reports to work you must perform the following. "

Could you fill in the procedure?

Your last posted version says:

Version 1.9 (4/24/2009)

I believe it should read:

Version 1.9 (3/24/2009), as 4/24/2009 isn't even here yet.

The timestamp on the EXE within the ZIP file shows 3/24/2009.

Love the tools.

I'm trying to add in the ability to do WOL.  I'm fairly close, but I'm having trouble defining a new ##SUB value in Adminconsole.xml for mac address.  Since this a variable tracked by SCCM per client, shouldn't we be able to reference this?

Would a new menu to access the 64-bit SYSWOW folder (e.g., CCM,logs)from a 32-bit console be unreasonable?  We have a mix and it's a few steps to get to the 64-bit data.

We've installed your tools into a brand new SCCM environment and have come across something very weird.

This happens when we right click on a device listed under a collection.

Any ideas why please?

Just to add: Thanks for the tool, I like the integration with the console.

I primarily want it for re-assigning a few clients (ad-hoc basis) and this is great. However I noticed an error when trying to reassign relating to the SLP, AD and WINS. Our SCCM install is all tickety-boo (extended, published, security rights etc) but I couldn't rehome my client:

Failed to resolve 'SMS_SLP' to IP address from WINS LocationServices 18/05/2009 11:10:09 14308 (0x37E4)

LSGetSLP : Failed to resolve SLP from WINS, is it published LocationServices 18/05/2009 11:10:09 14308 (0x37E4)

I added a WINS entry manually for SLP (technet.microsoft.com/.../bb632567.aspx) and it's fine.

Cheers again,

Nick

Web reports does not run correctly if Reporting point in othet than Site server. That may be necessary if you run site server in 64 bit server and want to use Office Web componets in reports. Then you need to install Reporting point in 32 -bit server.

I'm a big fan of your tools, just 2 issues I have with it at the moment.

The install automatically assumes C:\Windows and the system directory instead of use %SystemRoot%. We are not using C:\Windows on our workstations and it took me a while to figure out I needed to move the tools to get them to work.

Second, the "Client Web Reports" are assuming a specific format for URL path, but this can be changed at SCCM install and we have done this.  It would be good to have the install for your tools allow the user to specify a path to the reports URL, or better yet read it from SCCM.

Otherwise great tools, thanks!
